Had a great long weekend, sharing it with my love, homies and friends, can't ask for much more. So, in this post I got some leaked Kid Cudi tracks from his new album set to drop on the 15th. And finally the 2nd installment of California Soul on August 28th. If you missed the last one be sure to come out to this one. It is held at the beautiful Isla Cantina on the Sunset strip. This place has really good food and the ambience is to die for. The first CA Soul had a awesome eclectic, beautiful, diverse crowd, this one will only be better. I have asked my good friend Dj David Enzo to come help share the 2 turntables with me and bring some of his flavor to the event.

Well I've been super busy getting shit cracking for this summer and it all seems to be coming together. California Soul, Session 1 did really well at Isla, I want to thank all those that came out! We'll be back with Session 2 next month, the date isn't for sure but it looks like it will be the 15th and September's California Soul, Session 3 "The rise of the Funky Child" is set for the 12th. I'll be posting pictures from session 1 soon thanks to the amazing photography of Raman Gulati!

Big things coming up in the month of August, not only will we have the second installment of CA Soul but I will be spinning at the Foundation Room at The House of Blues on the Sunset Strip on August 13 for The Welcome to Rukus Avenue Concert Afterparty.

Digging in my library and I found a treat for you all. I found two mixes, one that I had done 10 years ago (well it will be ten officially in Dec.) and one I did 5 years ago. Both mixes were done when I was with the World Famous GSP crew and my dj name was still dj b.dogg.

This first one was done ten years ago and it was put on a cd along with 3 other mixes by raZor rus, sham-rok and dj swave for SASA 2000 in SF. Where raZor rus opened for Jam Master Jay (yes we all got to meet him before his untimely death, RIP JMJ), and all four of us as a crew were the closers for SASA 2000.

Couldn't leave you guys with some of my own words on the topic so here is a piece I wrote 8 years ago or so.

Contra Religion by Bikram Soni

It is my opinion that religion is not necessary to be a morally sound person. I would even take it a step further and argue religion becomes a hindrance in being a moral person in today's multi-religious society.

To be a moral person one must have good analytical skills. Analytical skills are important when judging whether certain actions would be of moral standings. Furthermore, in today's world of ever growing perplexing issues of poverty, disease and social reform a fine tune analytical mind is a necessity. Gone are the days when people burned others on the stake for acting different. We no longer believe that people are cursed when they exhibit erratic behavior, we call it schizophrenia. Accordingly, we can explain most phenomena in scientific terms. This paradigm shift from explaining phenomena has lead to better moral behavior towards people that may be different than ourselves, whether be disease or their faith. Hence, religion is not needed to be morally sound but rather a fine tuned analytical mind.

Religion brought morality to light during the darkness in human history when much was in chaos and mankind was ignorant of it's environment. Religion brought groups of people together and taught them to do well towards people of the same faith. When religion did good towards other faiths it resulted in the Spanish Inquisition. As I asserted in the latter paragraph we no longer hold dogmatic reasoning for everyday phenomena valid. Furthermore, we should let go of religion when constructing a moral code because religion instead of being a unifying mechanism has developed into a dividing force. Hence, religion by being a dividing force hinders us from being a morally sound person.

Ok, so this is my first attempt to blogging so bare with me. I will be posting from time to time mixes that I have made for you all to download. You'll also be able to find out where I'll be spinning at. I will also start to post new and old poems that I have written. So who am I? The DJ name I go by now is DJ Ben G. I recently changed it from dj b.dogg which i had for the past 14 years. I didn't feel that name encompassed who I was anymore, I still got b.dogg in me but my musical taste has expanded, plus Benji has always been my nick name my friends and family have called me. I will also be posting some songs that I think everyone should be aware of because there is a shit load of good music out there. A Magical Start

Like a light in a tunnel, I saw it from afar
I couldn’t realize how things started to fall apart
Take my hand she told me and let me lead you thru the dark
A fairy in this world of magic and stars
The sun set in the distant
The flowers started to wither one by one
The sky turned dark blue and a hint of sage burned by the setting sun
She turned to me with a blank stare in her eyes
And said, “Stay close to me and hold on tight”
A drop of sweat fell from my head onto a dead flower in our sight
She rushed me to a corner and started to cry in a high-pitched voice
The sound was deafening, in the distant I heard moans and groans
My heart started to race
The sky started to part
The petals of the dead flowers started to grow
The sun started to rise
She let my hand go
I couldn’t stop
She waited for a minute
Then took a piece of my heart
Gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me she’d be back when it would again start.
